The most wonderful time of year kicks off on Thursday 21 November, 5pm – 8pm with Leicester’s Christmas Lights Switch-On.
The city’s streets will be illuminated with over 16,000 sparkling lights and a spectacular tree, with 2,000 lights and 900 baubles, will take centre stage at the Clock Tower.
Family, friends, and loved ones will gather at Humberstone Gate for the official lights switch-on and a fantastic programme of live music and stage entertainment from 5pm onwards.
BBC Radio Leicester Jimmy and Summaya will be our hosts for the evening along with Blue’s Antony Costa (Abanazar) and Martin Ballard (Widow Twankey) from De Montfort Hall Christmas pantomime Aladdin. They will be joined on the Humberstone Gate stage by Father Christmas and the Lord Mayor for the big switch-on, along with music & entertainment from 4th Avenue and The Platforms.
Over on new market square, enjoy an award-winning selection of street food and drinks with A Christmas Canteen, plus a free outdoor screening at 4.30pm of Christmas favourite, Elf. Open from midday to 10.30pm, it’s the perfect place to meet up with friends and family.
Adults and children alike will be enchanted by this year’s Woodland Tales Christmas tableau in Town Hall Square, along with the traditional nativity scene. Music from brass bands and street artists will add to the festive atmosphere.
Head over to Highcross Leicester for Winter Galactical and see a festive future up in lights, with electrifying acts and spirited perfomances. Catch Titan the Robot, Insterstellar Storm and Britain’s Got Talent finalists Boogie Storm.
