When it comes to festive events, Leicester’s got all you want for Christmas. From the Jubilee Square Ice Rink and Santa in the Square to Christmas shows in our theatres and the Christmas Lights Switch-On getting the festive season started – there’s something for everyone.
Leicester’s Wheel of Light returns to Jubilee Square, offering birds-eye views of the twirling skaters on the ice rink and beyond, plus strike a pose at LightWeight on New Market Square, a giant inflatable sphere lit up with shimmering colours and live animation.
Shoppers looking for unique gifts can browse arts and crafts from Leicester and Leicestershire in the beautiful medieval Great Hall at The Guildhall Christmas Craft Fair. The Makers Yard Christmas Weekend showcases the work of Leicester’s artisans in the city’s makers hub in a stunningly converted hosiery factory.
The annual Open art exhibition at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery provides a showcase for artistic talent from the East Midlands. With works of art for sale, this is a great opportunity to start your own art collection or purchase a one-off Christmas gift for the art lover in your life. The ever-popular Clarendon Park Christmas Fair hosts stalls along Queens Road, offering a chance to buy Christmas hampers at the award winning deli and enjoy the neighbourhood’s independent cafes and bars.
The medieval Guildhall provides a special festive atmosphere with chance to get creative with Xmas brush letter workshop and Christmas Wreath Making sessions. Enjoy festive films with special screenings of The Muppets Christmas Carol, It’s a Wonderful Life and The Wizard of Oz. A warm welcome awaits at Leicester Cathedral, with traditional services including three carol services, Christmas Eve midnight mass and a service on Christmas Day.
